Artist Statement
When my mother downsized, she entrusted me with her button collection. I repurposed a frame and arranged her buttons alongside new ones to add depth and dimension. The heart represents the strength of the unit — one heart beating with purpose. The addition of new buttons reflects the moment women joined the military, bringing fresh perspectives and resilience that strengthened the force. Each button is distinct in color, texture, and design, just as every service member brings unique skills, backgrounds, and experiences. Together, they form a unit that is more adaptable, resilient, and mission‑ready. One Heart, Many Stories reminds us that while each journey is different, all are bound together in service. Diversity does not weaken the heart; it strengthens it.
