Artist Statement
At USAFA, one shared experience was having our civilian personas carefully sanded down and augmented with the skills and mindset needed to thrive as military leaders. At its best, this transformation enhances the core individual, revealing a stronger, more capable version of themselves. I apply a similar philosophy to many of my own projects—smoothing out rough edges and layering new elements while allowing each layer to remain visible. The final result is a visual representation of the original, enriched with depth, character, and reminders of every step taken in its evolution.
About the Artist
Sandra (Niemi) Beveridge was born in Uppsala, Sweden in 1964 and grew up across multiple countries and U.S. states as the daughter of a Foreign Service Officer. She graduated from Peoria High School, USAFA (1987), and AFIT (1991), serving 11 years as a scientific analyst in the U.S. Air Force. Afterward, she worked in logistics at Caterpillar Inc. until retiring in 2023. Sandra and her husband William live near Peoria, Illinois, and have two adult children, Alex (USAFA 2013) and Amanda. A lifelong lover of music and art, she’s sung in numerous choirs and led design projects, including a $9M church expansion and remodel.
