Artist Statement
During the Covid-19 years and time of masks, there was a lot of challenges for those in school. The Academy Checkpoints magazine did an excellent article explaining this and featured a cadet with a mask on their front cover image. I loved how the photographer did an up-close portrait of the cadet. Inspired by her look of resilience and with her representing all of the cadets, I went to a white board and did my best to draw the image. I took a picture of the Checkpoints and the marker drawing of the cadet side-by-side. The physical image has since been erased from the marker board, yet I am grateful to have taken this photo.
