Artist Statement
Walking the winding path toward Petra’s Monastery, I paused with this quiet donkey, its steady presence offering a moment of recognition — an understanding of what it means to move forward with purpose in a place shaped by time and trial. In the towering red and gold cliffs, carved over centuries by wind and perseverance, I saw reflections of my own journey through the challenges and growth that defined my years at the United States Air Force Academy. As the canyon opened before me and the light shifted across ancient stone, the scene took on a deeper meaning: a reminder that strength is often quiet, that progress is often slow, and that every step — no matter how small — carries the weight of those who walked before us. In this moment, the landscape became a story of resilience, echoing the legacy of the USAFA women whose paths, like these cliffs, are marked by courage, determination, and the unwavering conviction to keep climbing.
