Viewing USAFA from the Overlook

Artist Statement
Colorado Springs has such gorgeous views, but my favorite has always been to spot the Air Force Academy set in the mountains like a jewel with the spires of the cadet chapel catching the sun. Everyone recognized this famous landmark.
I was a cadet, I sang there, I was married there.
Now I'm an artist and I paint en plein air, which means what I see on site. So I in 2024, when I came to the Class of 1984's reunion, I was eager to set up my easel to paint the view. And yet there was this big white box where my chapel should be. Yet this, too, is part of our history for about a decade. So I painted the dorms, Polaris Hall, and the big white box. It's a memory of this decade for USAFA.
About the Artist
Bethany’s passion for creativity has shaped her life, from her years as an Air Force officer and civil engineer to discovering oil painting fifteen years ago. That first class revealed the joy of using color and texture to evoke memory and emotion.
Her paintings blend realism with warmth, from landscapes like Natural Bridge, the Manassas Stone Bridge, and the Scottish Highlands, to portraits capturing family, friends, and everyday life.
Recently, Bethany has embraced en plein air painting, capturing light and atmosphere outdoors. She works at Creative Brush Studio in Old Town Manassas, where her art is exhibited and available for commission.
